Ceremony Music

We definitely wanted something other than the same old wedding march for our ceremony. So, when we discovered the Vitamin String Quartet, who performs string covers of popular songs, we knew we had found our "ceremony band." Our DJ will be playing for the ceremony, and we've chosen the following songs.

Seating of the Families
To Be Determined

Attendants Processional

"We are Going to be Friends" (originally by the White Stripes) - VSQ

Bride's Processional
"Yellow" (originally by Coldplay) - VSQ

Recessional
"Don't Stop Believing" (originally by Journey) - VSQ

Reception Music

We trust our DJ to do a good job so we were against making too many "must play/do not play" demands. So, we told him that we wanted him to use his best judgment based on our "likes." We'd like our pre-ceremony music and cocktail hour music to be sort of indie-pop, with artists like Jack Johnson, White Stripes, Modest Mouse, etc. For the reception, we are going for an 80s/90s pop/rock mix with some (appropriate) hip-hop; basically, a good time party. And be prepared to play 'Bohemian Rhapsody' near the end of the night because it's sort of a tradition.

We did, however, pick the following songs for certain points in the night:

Reception Entrance
"Dynamite" - Taio Cruz

First Dance
"The Way I Am" -Ingrid Michaelson

Father/Daughter Dance
My dad is keeping this a secret. VERY frustrating!

Mother/Son Dance
To Be Determined

Cake Cutting
"Sweet Thing" - Keith Urban

Last Dance of the Night (we know this is usually a slower, wind down song, but we want to go out with a bang!)
"Swagger" by Flogging Molly

Do Not Play List

Ok, so we did have to make a small one...

  • Chicken Dance
  • Macarena
  • Conga
  • YMCA
  • Hokey Pokey
  • Locomotion
  • Limbo Rock
  • White Wedding – Billy Idol (I love Billy Idol, and I will Rebel Yell with the best of them, but this song is weird at weddings)
  • Every Breath You Take – Police (This is a creepy song and I hear it at tons of weddings... why?!)
  • Gwen Stefani (Just to avoid any sh!t getting bananas)
  • Pink (OMG I hate Pink... idk why...)
  • “I Touch Myself” the Divinyls (very awkward story that my family finds funny about how my uncle karaoke-ed this at my parents' wedding)
